We visited as part of a trip around Western New York during the fall of 2020. It was one of the highlights of the trip (besides a near-empty Niagara Falls visit). The park is very large, over 14,000 acres, stretching 17 miles along the Genesee River. Nicknamed “the Grand Canyon of the East,” hiking along the top of the deep gorge offers impressive views of the river and waterfalls. We entered at the South entrance and made several short to medium hikes throughout the day as we slowly made our way north. From short walks to scenic overlooks to strolls through flowering meadows to steep climbs down to the river or waterfalls – it never got boring!
